This was my home church (Socastee UMC) while Lew was serving a year remote tour in Korea. It is located just west of Myrtle Beach AFB which was Lew's next assignment. Our house (our first) was between the church and the back gate of the base. They have built a new sanctuary just to the left, but this structure is full of memories for me. Mary Ann was 2 when we moved there. Jim was born while we were assigned to Myrtle Beach AFB and was baptized in this church. I served as Church Secretary there (paid position) and Church treasurer and pianist (volunteer positions). I would never have survived the year without these wonderful folks!
We attended worship there this day and saw many of our old friends.
A bit of trivia: the current pastor here, Rev Ray Smith, was the pastor we followed at our first assignment at Jefferson. SC.
Another bit of trivia: Around the right side of the church was the scene of the opening scenes of Shag the Movie. A preacher's daughter is sneaking out of the parsonage to go to Myrtle Beach with her friends.
